Divine Retreat Hailed As A Big Blessing

03 September 2008

A big event for our local Asian Catholic community took place at St Teresa’s in Filton recently.  Tom Aditya reports for cliftondiocese.com.

The Spiritual Anointment Divine Retreat held at Bristol under the auspices of the ‘Jesus is our Saviour’ Catholic Fellowship was a success even beyond the imagination of the organisers. The Director of the world's largest Catholic retreat centre Father George Panackal, of the Divine Retreat Centre in India, led the retreat held at St Teresa’s, Filton.

Father George who is well renowned for more than two decades as a prophetic voice and a miraculous healer of Lord Jesus Christ and a strong pillar of the world Catholic charismatic movement, imparted the Word of God through life experiences and testimonies.

Many believers testified their healings from physical, mental and spiritual illnesses during the Adoration Healing. The pastoral counselling of the retreat led by Father John Parokkaran brought good fruits to rebuild relationships, to strengthen bonds and to bring peace and prosperity to the families.   The Sacrament of Reconciliation of the retreat was led by Father Jiji Alakulam. There was Malayalam Mass in the Syro Malabar Rite on all days of the retreat.

The children’s ministry of the retreat led by ‘Jesus Youth’ helped many toddlers, kids and teenagers to focus on the experience of Christian life in their family, schools and neighbourhood.  A wide variety of activities including sport, arts-and-crafts, drama, musical events, dances, sing-a-longs, storytelling - and a host of other activities made the ministry enjoyable for all the children. Apart from the local population, people from Middlesbrough, Manchester, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent, Cambridge, Birmingham, Coventry, Worcester, Gloucester, Hereford, Plymouth, Trowbridge, Taunton, Weston-super-Mare, Bath, Swindon, Reading, Oxford, Portsmouth, Cardiff, Swansea and several other far away places came to attend the three day retreat, which was provided with free accommodation and food by the volunteers.

St Teresa’s Parish Priest, Father Tom Finnegan welcomed the gathering and volunteers received a vote of thanks to all those who helped and participated in the retreat. Various medias including the BBC and several websites and newspapers provided coverage of the retreat.  An interview on BBC Radio Bristol’s Sangam Show is available in our story from last month.

Extra car parking facilities were arranged by the St Teresa’s and the nearby Methodist church. Retreat ministry was volunteered by many persons of good will including Brother Joy Enchackal, Brother Jose Kuruvilla, Brother Biju Jose and Deacon Joseph Philip. All the members of the 'Jesus is our Saviour Catholic Fellowship' who worked together for the success of the retreat thanked God for His blessings.
