Monsignor Mitchell - Messages for those Attending Funeral

03 September 2008

Monsignor Canon William Mitchell’s funeral takes place tomorrow (4 September).  cliftondiocese.com has been asked to make some practical details known for those attending.

As reported earlier this week, Monsignor Mitchell’s body will be received at St Michael’s Church on Silver Street in Tetbury today (3 September) at 6.30 pm.

His Requiem Mass will be celebrated on tomorrow (4 September) at 12.00 pm at St Mary the Virgin & St Mary Magdalen Anglican Parish Church in Tetbury.

The Mayor of Tetbury, Councillor Stephen Hirst has been in touch to pass on details that will help mourners.  He told cliftondiocese.com, “Parking in Tetbury is very congested and chargeable. Therefore special arrangements have been put in hand at Folly Farm, where the after service refreshments are available, for free parking before the Requiem Mass.

“This facility will be signposted. Folly farm is on the Malmesbury Road approximately half a mile from St Mary's church.

“A shuttle bus service has also been organised to run before the Mass between Folly Farm and St Mary's church.  This bus service will be also operating after the Mass for all attendees.”

Meanwhile a note for clergy attending the funeral has also been issued.  All Clergy are asked to vest in St Mary the Virgin & St Mary Magdalen.  Directions for clergy who are vesting will be given at the church entrance, so please look out for these on arrival at St Mary’s.

Monsignor Mitchell died on 29 August in Tetbury.  Many people have clearly been touched by his ministry and personality over the years.  People from across the country are leaving there tributes here on cliftondiocese.com.  You can add your thoughts and comments as part our report that was first published earlier this week.
