DOWNSIDE ABBEY and CLIFTON DIOCESE – Vocations Discernment Retreat

Friday 18 October to Sunday 20 October 2019          

     

All services are in the Abbey Church, unless indicated otherwise. Meals are in the Main Refectory, and talks are in the Weld Refectory. Refreshments are also available in the Weld.

Please approach any of the Priests at any time during the Retreat if you wish to make your Reconciliation.

FRIDAY 18 October 2019

From 7 pm Arrival at the Weld Refectory, refreshments and registration

8 pm Compline

9 pm Introductions, and outline of the Retreat in the Weld

From 10 pm Adoration in the Crypt Chapel

SATURDAY 19 October, 2019

6am Vigils (Optional!)

7.10 am Lauds, followed by breakfast

8.35am Mass. After Mass, Regular Adorers will keep the Crypt Chapel open for Adoration until 6 pm

9.30 am, or after Mass, refreshments in the Weld

10 am Talk by Sister Elizabeth Mary Mann, Monastery of Our Lady and St Bernard, Brownshill “The universal call to Holiness and to Love”

11am Break

11.15 am Talk by Fr. Nicholas Crowe, Vocations Director, Order of Preachers “Responding to the call for Vocation”

12.15 Break

12.30 pm Midday Office

1 pm Lunch

2.00 pm Talk by Fr. Matt Anscombe, a Priest of Clifton Diocese, “The Priesthood”

3.00 pm Break

3.15 pm Talk by Fr. Anselm Brumwell, Vocations Director, Downside Abbey

 “The Consecrated Life”

4.45 pm Talk by Gavin D’Costa, Professor of Catholic Theology at the University of Bristol. He is also an advisor to the Vatican Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and the Roman Catholic Bishops in England and Wales on matters related to other religions. “The call to holiness. A challenge for the laity”

5.45 pm Break

6 pm Vespers

6.30 pm Supper

8pm Vigils

9 pm Social time, including film, in the Weld

From 11 pm Adoration in the Crypt Chapel

SUNDAY 20 October 2019

7.30am Lauds, followed by breakfast

10 am Mass. After Mass, Regular Adorers will keep the Crypt Chapel open for Adoration until after Vespers

After Mass, refreshments in the Weld Refectory

11.15 am “Mini Roadshow!”

Invited representatives from a number of Religious Orders will talk for 5 minutes describing the charism of their Order. 5 minutes will then be allowed for questions. All of the speakers will be at the Retreat over the weekend, and in particular at lunch after the “Roadshow” for you to chat with further

12.15 Break

12.30pm Midday Office followed by Lunch

2.30 pm Informal Question and Answer Session, with Refreshments. The representatives from the Religious Orders will be at this Session.

3.30 pm End of Retreat.
