Abbey Mounter, a young adult from Bristol, is representing the Clifton Diocese at two preparatory meetings in London.
The Synod on Youth, Faith & Vocational discernment takes place in Rome during October 2018 and aims to place young people and young adults, as Pope Francis said, ‘at the centre of attention…’ in our parishes, our diocese and the whole Catholic community across the world.
As a follow-up to the Youth Mega Poll during the summer, the Bishops Conference of England and Wales has asked that each diocese send a young adult to meet with the national representative who will pass on their views about different experiences of young people in England and Wales, their engagement with the Catholic Church and how we can become better at vocational discernment. Abbey will then meet with the national rep again on their return so that they can share their experiences with them and they can discuss what implications the synod might have on the Church in England and Wales.
Abbey is a parishioner of St Bernard’s Shirehampton and has been involved in Youth Ministry in the Clifton Diocese for many years, attending diocesan events, being a member of the BS11 youth group and joining the Lourdes and WYD @ home Pilgrimages. Abbey currently studies at Bristol University and works part time in St Bede’s Catholic College as Chaplaincy assistant.
