The children and staff at St Mary’s Primary School in Swindon were thrilled with the recent visit by Bishop Declan.  He came because our School Chaplains invited him to come and talk to the school about prayer and to look at the work they have been doing within the community.  We also took the opportunity for Bishop Declan to officially open our brand new nursery.

The Bishop led a beautiful assembly where he spoke passionately about the power of prayer as an important part of our mission.  He blessed our prayer room and enthused our School Chaplains through a lively question and answer session.

Bishop Declan then opened our nursery surrounded by children, staff and parents.  Our nursery has its own school uniform and they wear green t-shirts and jumpers.  Bishop Declan explained that green is the colour of hope and provides a real statement about the importance of nursery education at St Mary’s.  We have been delighted with the interest and enthusiasm for nursery education and the nursery is already full in most sessions.  The children have settled into life at the school extremely well.  The children finished the celebration by singing a special song they had prepared for Bishop Declan.
