As part of the diocesan ‘Year of Mission’, Saint Edmund’s Parish in Calne, Wiltshire is hosting an exhibition of Christian art. Entitled ‘Epiphanies of Beauty’ after Pope John Paul II’s 1999 “Letter to Artists”, the exhibition in the church features some forty original works of art, all with a Christian theme, by local artists.
The exhibition includes mosaic, egg-tempera panel paintings, stained glass, calligraphy and embroidery. Also on display are a series of hand painted Paschal candles and several sculptures by the late Seán Crampton, past President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Seán Crampton was a parishioner at Saint Edmund’s from 1977 to his death in 1999 and the church houses his prize-winning phosphor bronze ‘Stations of the Cross’. Details of these are on the parish’s website at http://www.saintedmundscalne.org.uk/
The exhibition runs from Thursday 4th October to Thursday 18th October and is open to the public on the afternoons of Saturday 6th October and Saturday 13th October from 1.pm. to 4.pm. as part of the “Calne Music and Arts Festival”.
