St Aldhelms can be extremely proud of the completion of this task which commenced over 18 months ago when we asked for soaps, toothbrushes, towels, pencil cases, school uniforms and other items for the backpacks. Everyone rallied so generously to the cause and enormous thanks are due to all who participated in this activity in any way. Thank you for extending a helping hand to help schoolchildren to prosper despite their lack of facilities and obvious deprivation. This will make a huge difference to say many lives.
We are delighted to share with you that 250 back packs were shipped this week to Marys Meals! This follows a delay with regards to collection and shipping issues – some of which unfortunately remain. The backpacks will be delivered by Mary’s Meals to school children in need across the globe. We have asked to be kept informed of their final destinations so that we will be able to keep you updated on progress.
Grateful thanks to everyone at St Aldhelms who so generously donated funds in addition to all the items needed to enable us to send so many backpacks. It has been so rewarding to see such generosity.
Special thanks go to Jacqui Kinzel who tirelessly dedicated so much time and energy to this project in order to ensure it’s success. Jacqui washed and ironed over 300 uniforms and stored all the items in her property until we were ready and able to assemble the packs. Her methodical and meticulous approach, impressive calculation of items, her shopping and organisation from start to finish has been amazing – and without her absolute dedication this task would not have been possible. A huge thank you to Jacqui – we could not have done this without you!
Our thanks too to Colin and Ali who so generously allowed us the space to pack the items in their home and permitted further storage of the completed backpacks. They also arranged the shipping to Marys Meals HQ in Glasgow. Our grateful thanks to Sheila, Mario and Isabelle and Pat as well for their help with the packing.
As well as the 250 completed backpacks we were also able to send additional boxes of spare items and uniforms to assist with the packaging of further backpacks.
Mary’s Meals provides one good meal to some of the world’s poorest children every school day. Their work is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her own child in poverty. Mary’s Meals consists of, respects, and reaches out to people of all faiths and of none.
