The Confirmation Ceremony for 34 candidates from St. Joseph’s and St. Patrick’s parishes in East Bristol in July was also an opportunity for Bishop Declan to bless the new extensions to St. Patrick’s Church.
Over 500 guests supported the young people at a Mass celebrated by Bishop Declan. Fourteen priests concelebrated the Mass including The Abbot of Buckfast, and the parish priests – Fr. Gregory Grant (St. Patrick’s) and Fr. Paul Viettikkattu (St. Joseph’s).
The church extensions provides extra seating for 120 worshippers, a new entrance, extended social facilities and 40 new parking spaces. The expanding congregation has risen from 250 at Mass on Sunday to 650 weekly worshippers in the past three decades.
The new extension called The Chapel of The Resurrection contains a large Columbarium for the inurnment of cremated remains. The ashes of five parishioners were inurned during a special ceremony in July. Ashes of the deceased will be inurned in this beautiful new final Resting Place each month.
The development project was paid for through a financial package organised by The Grant Bradley Charitable Trust and in co-operation with the Clifton diocese with no debt to the parish.
After the celebrations a reception for all the candidates and guests was held in the refurbished Shore Gallery.
