End of year and Summer Activities for B-Attitude Groups

We hope you, your families and your school and parish communities are keeping well and safe in these trying times.

We are writing to thank all of you for having joined us during the last year by having a B-Attitude group in your School/Parish and your invaluable work throughout this academic year, although the year has brought its own restrictions and challenges.  You are very much part of the SVP family, and we are so pleased that you have embraced the spirit of St Vincent de Paul and Blessed Frédéric Ozanam in pouring out your charity into the places and lives close by who need it most.

Below are some activities and resources for you to get involved in during the summer break and please do look out for our social media posts during the summer period as well  and fundraising efforts by Young Vincentians for the SVP Covid Emergency Response Fund.

Young Vincentians Microsite

We launched our new B-Attitude microsite this March 2020. https://www.svp.org.uk/b-attitude/about.  Please visit the B-Attitude website whenever possible for updates and activities.  If you have any photos of your young people doing works of charity, please send them to us (with consent) so that we can upload them to our website.

Instagram

We have just also launched our new Young Vincentians Instagram account. If you have Instagram, please do follow us on SVP YoungVincentians. We will be sending you further guidance re zoom safety /Code of conduct for young people working virtually in our Autumn mailings and really hope to capture more fully the voice of the young people through this social media platform going forward and to support you in the your spiritual formation as very key members of the wider SVP Vincentian family.

Young Adult Council

We are looking for 2 young people (16-18) years to represent the older youth and young adult members at Board, biannual National meeting and selected committee level within the Society of St Vincent de Paul England & Wales (SVP E&W). At inception the selected committees are named as the Membership Strategic Committee (MSC) and the Social Justice Committee (SJC).

The aims of the group are to:

  • enable youth and young adults to have a voice on and make a positive contribution to the direction of the SVP E&W at Board and select committee levels
  • to contribute to the development of Vincentian spirituality within the apostolates for youth and young adults at SVP E&W
  • to engage with the international youth and young adult SVP apostolate building fraternity, sharing of ideas and resources, following in the footsteps of past notable members such as  Blessed Frederic Ozanam, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frasatti and St GiannaMolla
If you yourself  would be interested or think one of your B-Attitude friends would be interested in being representatives on this Council, then please let us know asap and we can send you the ‘Terms of Reference’ for this newly established forum so you can be part of the meeting in September 2020.

Recycling/The Environment

Do you care about global warming?  Of course, you do.  Even though you are stylish or fashionable, please can we encourage you  and in turn  please do encourage your families and friends to buy second-hand and vintage garments from your local St Vincent’s shop and can you try to declutter your wardrobes over the summer period  and donate any unwanted items of clothing to our SVP shops  and this way you will be doing the Earth (and yourselves) a favour.  You can find out where your nearest SVP shop is by clicking on this link – https://www.svp.org.uk/st-vincents-com

B-Attitude/Youth SVP Mass March 2021 St. George’s Cathedral, Southwark

We all carry such lovely memories of our first ever Youth SVP/B-Attitude Mass at St. George’s Cathedral Southwark in March this year just prior to lockdown and are delighted that we have now secured a date for our Mass next year. Our 2nd Youth SVP/ B-Attitude Mass will be celebrated by the most Reverend Archbishop John Wilson at St. Georges Cathedral, Southwark on Wednesday 10th March 2021 at 2.30pm. Please do put the date in your diaries now and we hope you will all be able to join us for this wonderful celebration. Lots more details to follow in the Autumn term but please register your interest early and do continue to pray for your own parish priest and all our wonderful clergy who have nourished us all spiritually, where possible,  with live streamed Masses, reflections, inspiring messages, beautiful uplifting messages and their continued prayers throughout these challenging months.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at any stage and we will do our very best to respond to all queries asap.

Wishing you all a restful, safe summer break and look forward to working with you all from September 2020. Thank you for all your do to make a difference to the lives of so many.

Many blessings,
