The Year 6 primary school children across Clifton Diocese gathered together at Clifton Cathedral to celebrate the annual Leavers’ Mass.  It was the first time the Mass had been held in person for two years and it was a joyous occasion.  Pupils from the Aquinas, Dunstan, Emmaus and Samuel Partnerships attended Mass on Wednesday 22nd June whilst pupils from the Camino, Little Way and Newman Partnerships attended Mass on Thursday 23rd June.

Bishop Declan celebrated both Masses which is something the children will treasure.  The homily on Wednesday 22nd June was given by Mgr. Bernard Massey and can be viewed below as is the homily given by Mgr. Liam Slattery on Thursday, 23rd June.

During the Mass the children demonstrated how they had embraced Pope Francis’ encyclical ‘Fratelli Tutti’ by showing love for their neighbours.  We also recognised how the Year 6 pupils had supported their schools through their leadership and caring for others.  The response of children to the war in Ukraine through their prayers and raising money was also commended.

St. Mary’s Primary in Churchdown were presented with the CAFOD Live Simply Award by Bishop Declan.   Papal Blessings were given to Colleen Collett the retiring Director and Ann Fowler the retiring Deputy Director of the Department for Schools & Colleges for their services over many years to Catholic education.
