Novena to the Holy Spirit
13 – 22nd May 2021

As we continue as a diocese to reflect on how we Dare to Dream our future and move forward from the pandemic Bishop Declan invites us join together in a Novena to the Holy Spirit seeking guidance, wisdom and understanding of what God is asking of us as the Body of Christ in this part of the world.

Each day  you can access here the prayer, scripture, music and reflections from different people around the diocese.

Please remember to turn your sound on, find a quiet place and allow yourself the space and time to enter into this time of prayer.

Day Nine: Self-control

Friday 21 May 2021

Invocation to the Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit
and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit
we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations,
Through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer

Father, the wisdom and strength of your Holy Spirit inspired the saints to live pure lives. May the same Spirit strengthen us in mind and body and teach us to service you with pure hearts. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Reading : Galatians 5:16-17, 24-25

I say, live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…Now those who belong to Christ have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.

Litany (see below)

Concluding Prayer

Heavenly Father, hear the prayers that we make in the name of your Son, and send us your Spirit. May your Holy Spirit cleanse our hearts and strengthen our bodies. May the purity of our lives bear witness to the power of your love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
